Very good food, and has been for at least 40 years. The Monterey house at HEB location did not pan out. The good was totally different there. But the original Monterey house on 11st is the best.

I can remember eating at Monterey house as a child finding the candy at the bottom of the basket of chips!!! This place still is a head of any Tex mex place in town ! Great service and great food!!! Photo is the aftermath. Couldn’t wait to take picture!!
I have been coming to this place for over 20 years. Tonight I had a bad experience. I took my wife for our anniversary, first thing that happened was I was brought the wrong drink, I had to ask twice to finally get it. When my food was brought out it was not made how I ordered it and had to be taken and remade. After the meal was over I attempted to get to go cups and boxes and I had to ask the lady twice again for the boxes. The common thing I noticed is the employees seem to be distracted by their cell phones. The wait staff were very forgetful and short with me despite me being respectful. It has been a year or two since my last visit here, and it use to not be like this. I was not happy at all with my experience.
Really good food, just like old times when I used to go as a child. To bad nothing in this particular restaurant has been updated in 40 years. Still, the food is good.
